AI Associates | For Ørsted’s office in Kuala Lumpur, AI Associates was tasked with translating a global mission of creating a world powered entirely by green energy into a localized, lived experience. Turning that ambition into a physical reflection, we created a workplace that not only supports how people work, but why they work. The result is a vibrant environment that feels grounded and alive, combining sustainability with human-centric design.
The design concept “Love Your Workplace” captures Ørsted’s vision for a culture that values connection, balance, and belonging. Every element in the design, from the layout, material to color selection, reflects this idea. Drawing from their brand palette of calm blues and natural greens, the interiors exude a sense of ease and vitality.
The workplace adopts an activity-based model, allowing flexibility across diverse work modes. Collaboration lounges, quiet corners, meeting pods, and open benches form a constellation of choices. Employees can flow between energetic brainstorming sessions and moments of quiet focus, mirroring the dynamic rhythm of renewable energy itself.
Central to the design is a biophilic narrative that brings the healing properties of the outdoors in. Lush green walls, planted dividers, and custom tree installations function as living architecture that softens boundaries between zones. These natural layers soften the open plan, enhancing acoustic performance and physiological respite, creating a sensory-rich environment.
Sustainability isn’t just expressed through visuals, it’s built into every decision. From energy-efficient lighting and responsible material sourcing to daylight optimization and low-emission finishes, the office embodies Ørsted’s environmental ethos. The design aligns aesthetics with ethics, transforming sustainability from a statement into a lived reality.
The pantry and social hub serve as the heart of the workplace. Designed with the warmth of a neighbourhood café, this zone encourages informal connection and spontaneous conversation. Timber textures, natural light, and playful seating foster a sense of comfort and inclusivity. Here, community grows as organically as the plants that surround it.
Art also plays a defining role in shaping identity. Colorful wall murals depicting natural landscapes and Malaysian wildlife reflect Ørsted’s respect for local culture and biodiversity. These creative gestures celebrate place and remind employees that global sustainability begins with local awareness.
Private meeting rooms and executive areas continue the same dialogue of openness and light. Glass partitions maintain visual continuity, while acoustic treatments ensure focus. The flow between spaces feels effortless as each transition reveals a balance between formality and ease.
For AI Associates, designing Ørsted’s Kuala Lumpur office was a study in integrating brand, environment, and human experience. The team approached the project with a philosophy of connection: connecting people to each other, to nature, and to a larger global mission.
The result is a workplace that doesn’t dictate how people should work—it inspires them to want to. In this space, collaboration feels natural, sustainability feels personal, and every design decision tells a story of purpose.
